10 Massages to Manage: Beat Life’s Pressures and Stressors Today

massage therapy

My respect for massage started when one of my friends gifted me with a certificate for deep tissue massage.

It was the fastest thirty minutes of my life.

This personal experience led me to conclude that massage therapy can help accelerate your body’s natural healing responses to trauma.

An opinion is only an opinion, but I’m grateful to have full range of motion in my body again.

I learned firsthand about back pain when I spent a day doing heavy lifting.

My work hours were long, but satisfying.

I felt empowered by progress.

Feelings of invincibility duped me into thinking I could bend at the waist when lifting boxes upon boxes of discarded textbooks.

The strain was immediate.

Stabbing, sharp pain sliced through me.

Of course, I dropped the book.

Everything inside splattered on the floor.

Stress on a spinal column can make a person painfully aware of what happens when you do not lift heavy objects properly.

Any areas of the spine (vertebra) can be damaged by misuse or accident.

The vertebrae are composed of Cervical-7, thoracic-12, lumbar-5, Sacral, and coccygeal.

The numbers next to spinal sections lets you know how many bones are in that section.

The lumbar region (L1 – L5) is most often affected when people bend over to lift heavy objects.

If you think you might benefit from massage therapy, be prepared to identify which type you need.

  1. Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is said to improve flow of fluid in body and build up your immune system.
  2. Reflexology is a type of pressure massage on your feet or hands that correlates to different parts of your body.
  3. Craniosacral Therapy
  4. Pregnancy Massage
  5. Thai Massage applies acupressure and yoga poses.
  6. Shiatsu has its origins in Japanese culture. It applies pressure points in the body
  7. Sports Massage can improve flexibility.
  8. Hot Stone Massage is said to improve blood flow.
  9. Deep Tissue Massage may help with chronic pain.
  10. Swedish Massage

Whatever stressor you’d like to overcome, please consider trying a massage.

If it helps, great.

If it doesn’t help, it still is a perfect way to spend thirty minutes.
