I live in a part of the world that experiences four seasons, which in September can only mean one thing: cue the cozy.

It’s my firm belief that the ‘cozy mystery’ season isn’t limited to autumn, but instead another reason to pull your chair closer to the fire and settle into the evening with a good book.

Cozy mysteries can be entertaining and calming.

They’re a good prescription for our sometimes chaotic, time-compressed world.

Decompression through stress reduction strategies (a.k.a. reading a cozy mystery) can help you live longer.

Chronic stress is well documented in connection to adverse health outcomes .

The structure in cozies involves starting with a serene setting and ending with restored peacefulness.

When I’m fixated on cozies, there will be homemade soup simmering on my stove.

I might even be inspired to create my own recipe – a twist on an old favorite?

I’ll adjust lighting by eliminating harsh overhead glare in favor of table lamps.

Most definitely, I will choose well-worn (read well-loved) clothing like my ‘ugly’ sweatshirt.

Clothing of this nature has accompanied me during several complex challenges where I’ve had ‘ugly cries.’

My ugly sweatshirt is akin to a baby’s blanket. Soothing.

Familiar.

Epitome of comfort.

A special delivery is racing through the mail system to my front door, and I can’t wait to unfurl the softest blankets to nestle in while reading it.

An 🍀Irish Bookshop, Mercy McCarthy Mystery 🍀book meets the qualification for a cozy mystery with perfect style and an enticing back cover hook.

I look forward to reading it while enjoying the comforts of home—warmth, a nutritious, simple meal, and peace.

I can almost smell my Irish mulligan stew already.

Yes, that’s my recipe included in this blog.
